HFCL, a technology enterprise engaged in optical fibre, optical fibre cables and digital connectivity solutions, is strengthening its position in the fast-growing optical connectivity market, supported by rising investments in AI-driven data centres, cloud infrastructure, next-generation telecom networks and digital infrastructure worldwide.
The company is also scaling its defence and aerospace business through indigenous technology development, manufacturing expansion and strategic acquisitions, positioning both businesses as key long-term growth drivers.
Capacity expansion
HFCL’s capacity expansion programme remains on track. Optical fibre capacity is being increased from 28 million fibre kilometres to 34 million fibre kilometres, while optical fibre cable capacity is being expanded from 34 million fibre kilometres to 43 million fibre kilometres to meet rising global demand.
The company is also advancing its backward integration into preform manufacturing to strengthen supply chain resilience and enhance long-term competitiveness.
Defence growth
HFCL has initiated the process of setting up an Ammunition Manufacturing Complex in Andhra Pradesh. The facility will manufacture multimode hand grenades, electronic fuzes and other ammunition products.
The company is also expanding its portfolio of surveillance radars, thermal imaging systems and tactical communication solutions. It sees the defence business as a strategic long-term growth engine, supported by strong policy backing and sustained demand.
Data centre investment
“With these strategic initiatives, HFCL has entered a new phase of accelerated and profitable growth. The convergence of AI, digital infrastructure, optical connectivity and defence modernisation is creating significant long-term opportunities for the Company,” said HFCL, Managing Director, Mahendra Nahata.
“To further strengthen our leadership in the optical connectivity space, the Board has approved the expansion of a manufacturing facility for advanced data centre connectivity products with an investment of about ₹215 crore,” he said.
Manufacturing expansion
The proposed facility will have the capacity to manufacture 2,70,000 data centre connectivity assemblies annually. The investment aims to address rising global demand for next-generation connectivity products used in AI and hyperscale data centres.
The project will expand manufacturing capabilities, strengthen the company’s presence in the high-growth data centre connectivity segment, boost exports, support import substitution and reinforce HFCL’s position as a leading provider of advanced optical connectivity solutions.
