GMR Aero Technic has signed a licensing agreement with Honeywell Aerospace to provide maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services for critical components used in LEAP aircraft engines, marking a significant expansion of its component repair capabilities in India.
The agreement enables GMR Aero Technic to undertake maintenance, repair, overhaul and depot-level servicing of seven Honeywell aerospace Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) fitted on LEAP engines that power Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
The scope of work includes complete disassembly, inspection, repair, reassembly and functional testing of critical engine control systems, allowing airlines to access advanced repair services within the region.
Strengthening MRO capabilities
The partnership is expected to strengthen India’s aviation maintenance ecosystem by combining Honeywell’s expertise in aircraft systems with GMR Aero Technic’s certified facilities, advanced repair infrastructure and skilled workforce.
The companies said the collaboration would significantly improve turnaround times by enabling repairs within India, while enhancing service quality and offering more cost-effective solutions to airline operators across the region.
Boost for domestic aviation ecosystem
GMR Aero Technic President & Accountable Manager Ashok Gopinath said the agreement marks an important milestone in expanding the company’s component MRO portfolio.

GMR Aero Technic said the partnership aligns with its long-term strategy to expand its maintenance, repair and overhaul capabilities while supporting the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.
By developing indigenous repair capabilities for advanced aircraft components, the company aims to reduce dependence on overseas MRO facilities, lower maintenance costs for airlines and strengthen India’s position as a regional aviation maintenance hub.
