Milky Mist Dairy Food Ltd, a value-added dairy and packaged food company, has commissioned a ₹40-crore Skyr and Greek Yogurt manufacturing plant using Ultrafiltration Technology at its integrated facility in Perundurai, Tamil Nadu.
The new facility has a processing capacity of up to 150 tonnes per day. The expansion is aimed at helping Milky Mist scale its high-protein portfolio amid growing consumer demand for convenient, protein-rich food products.
Capacity expanded to meet demand
Milky Mist was the first company in India to introduce Ultrafiltration Technology for manufacturing Skyr and Greek Yogurt in 2022. It had initially installed a customised multi-product yogurt facility with a capacity of about 20 tonnes per day.
Annual demand for the category has since grown by more than 50%, prompting the company to expand beyond its initial capacity. Demand for high-protein yogurts has also more than doubled in recent months, reflecting the growing focus on protein-led nutrition.
Focus on high-protein dairy
The new facility was developed after an evaluation of global manufacturing technologies. Its advanced Ultrafiltration capabilities are expected to support higher production volumes, consistent quality and the development of differentiated high-protein dairy products.
“The commissioning of our advanced manufacturing facility represents a strategic expansion of our technological capabilities. The new plant provides us with the scale to serve rising demand, accelerate innovation and expand the category,” Chief Executive Officer K. Rathnam said.
“This investment strengthens Milky Mist’s position in the high-protein segment and creates a robust platform for sustained profitable growth,” he said.
Part of Perundurai expansion
The new plant forms part of Milky Mist’s broader expansion and modernisation programme at Perundurai. The company expects the investment to increase the availability of its Skyr and Greek Yogurt portfolio and support future revenue growth.
The expansion is also expected to strengthen Milky Mist’s position in India’s developing high-protein dairy segment as consumers increasingly seek protein-rich options for everyday consumption.
