CW Bureau ·

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Mumbai has launched a one-year Executive MBA in Wealth Management in collaboration with Neo Wealth and Asset Management, aiming to equip financial services professionals with specialised expertise in one of India’s fastest-growing segments.

The programme was formally inaugurated on July 15 at the institute’s Powai campus, with classes commencing from July 18.

Among India’s first dedicated wealth management programmes
IIM Mumbai said the Executive MBA in Wealth Management is among the country’s first academic programmes dedicated exclusively to wealth management. Designed for working professionals, the non-residential programme will be delivered over 52 weekends, enabling participants to continue their careers while pursuing advanced education.

The curriculum blends academic learning with industry exposure and covers key areas such as portfolio management, risk assessment, taxation, estate planning and behavioural finance.

The courses will be taught by IIM Mumbai faculty, while industry experts from Neo Wealth and Asset Management and other organisations will conduct practitioner-led sessions to provide real-world insights into the evolving wealth management landscape.

Industry-academia collaboration
The institute said the programme reflects the increasing need for closer collaboration between academia and industry to prepare professionals for the rapidly changing financial services sector.

Beyond the Executive MBA, IIM Mumbai and Neo Wealth and Asset Management have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly promote wealth management education through digital initiatives, including masterclasses, case studies, research publications and industry perspectives.

Riding India’s wealth creation wave
India’s wealth management industry has been witnessing robust growth, driven by rising entrepreneurship, business liquidity events, first-generation wealth creation and inter-generational wealth transfer.

The expanding market has created growing demand for professionals with specialised skills in investment management, taxation, succession planning, risk management and comprehensive wealth advisory services.

Leadership comments
IIM Mumbai Director Prof Manoj Kumar Tiwary said the wealth management industry is becoming an increasingly significant part of India’s financial ecosystem, requiring professionals with both strong conceptual knowledge and practical expertise.

He said the programme demonstrates IIM Mumbai’s commitment to developing future-ready leaders through industry-aligned education and added that the collaboration with Neo Wealth and Asset Management would enrich participants’ learning through practitioner perspectives.

Neo Wealth Co-Founder & CEO Shajikumar Devakar said the wealth management industry is evolving rapidly and requires professionals who can combine technical expertise with a client-centric approach.

He said the collaboration with IIM Mumbai would help develop talent for a sector that continues to grow in scale and complexity by integrating academic excellence with industry experience.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by IIM Mumbai leadership, faculty members, industry representatives and participants from the inaugural batch. Devakar also addressed the gathering on emerging trends in wealth management and the importance of continuous professional development in the financial services industry.
