Protean eGov Technologies Ltd, the Mumbai-headquartered digital public infrastructure (DPI) company known for building population-scale technology platforms, has appointed Ajay Rajan as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer with effect from June 1, 2026.

Rajan succeeds V. Easwaran, who had been serving as Interim CEO, and takes charge at a time when governments, institutions and enterprises are increasingly seeking trusted digital ecosystems capable of delivering services at scale.

For more than three decades, Protean has played a key role in India’s digital and financial infrastructure journey, developing platforms that have expanded access, promoted inclusion and enabled the delivery of essential public services.

Focus on DPI and AI-Led solutions

Rajan will lead its next phase of growth, focusing on strengthening its contribution to India’s digital ecosystem, expanding AI-enabled enterprise solutions and scaling its DPI capabilities in international markets.

This strategy builds on Protean’s track record of creating large-scale digital platforms while opening up new avenues for long-term growth and global expansion.

“Protean has always been driven by the belief that technology can create meaningful public impact at scale,” said Protean eGov Technologies Whole-time Director COO & Interim CEO V. Easwaran.

“As the company enters its next phase of growth and innovation, we are pleased to welcome Ajay Rajan as Managing Director & CEO. Ajay brings a rare combination of institutional leadership, deep understanding of digital ecosystems and strong execution experience across banking and technology. We believe his leadership will further strengthen Protean’s role in shaping the future of Digital Public Infrastructure in India and beyond,” he said.

Veteran of banking and fintech

Rajan brings more than three decades of experience across banking, fintech and digital transformation.

Prior to joining Protean, he held senior leadership positions at YES Bank, where he oversaw Government, Multinational & New Economy Business, International Banking Unit and Knowledge Units, while also leading several digital and DPI-linked initiatives.

Earlier, during a two-decade career at Deutsche Bank, he held multiple leadership roles, including Global Head of Fintech.

“My immediate focus will be on listening closely to our stakeholders and translating Protean’s strengths into customised, scalable and profitable solutions for the future,” said Protean eGov Technologies Managing Director & CEO Ajay Rajan.

“We will pursue this with strong governance, disciplined execution and a clear commitment to sustainable value creation,” he added.

Rajan has also served on strategic industry and regulatory committees and is a recognised speaker on banking, fintech, innovation and digital transformation at national and international forums.
