SJVN Ltd has commissioned its 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project in Rajasthan, strengthening its renewable energy portfolio and expanding India’s clean energy capacity.
The project was dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a programme held in Rajasthan.
Developed through its renewable energy arm, SJVN Green Energy Ltd (SGEL), the project has been built at an investment of about ₹5,492 crore across nearly 5,000 acres.
Largest DCR project
The Bikaner project is India’s largest single engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) solar project under the Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) category at a single location.
The project is expected to generate about 2,454.84 million units (MU) of electricity in the first year and around 56,482.14 MU of clean energy over its 25-year operational life.
Power allocation
The electricity generated from the project will be supplied to Rajasthan (500 MW), Uttarakhand (200 MW) and Jammu & Kashmir (300 MW).
SJVN said the project is expected to reduce nearly 2.79 billion kg of carbon emissions over its operational life, supporting India’s renewable energy and energy security goals.
Domestic manufacturing
The project has been developed with a strong focus on the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, using about 24.22 lakh domestically manufactured DCR solar modules and around 175 crore indigenous solar cells.
The initiative is expected to strengthen India’s domestic renewable energy manufacturing ecosystem while reducing dependence on imports.
Portfolio
SJVN, a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise, currently has an installed power generation capacity of 4,196.5 MW and operates two transmission lines with a combined length of 123 km.
