United Breweries Ltd (UBL), part of the Heineken Company and one of India’s largest beer producers, has launched Heineken Silver in Assam, expanding the brand’s presence to 11 markets in the country.
The launch comes as beer companies seek to capitalise on consumer interest in premium offerings and international brands. UBL is expanding Heineken Silver’s availability across key markets as part of its broader premiumisation strategy.
In Assam, the beer is priced at ₹120 for a 330 ml pint, ₹160 for a 500 ml can and ₹200 for a 650 ml bottle. The products are available through retail outlets in the state.
Premiumisation drives expansion
UBL said the response to Heineken Silver in existing markets had reinforced the brand’s appeal among consumers seeking a premium lager with a smooth and refreshing taste profile.
The company has been extending the brand’s reach following launches in markets including Kerala, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh. Its latest entry into Assam is part of an effort to broaden access to its premium beer portfolio.
For the beer industry, premiumisation offers an opportunity to increase value by encouraging consumers to choose higher-priced products. The commercial outcome, however, depends on local demand, pricing, distribution and the strength of competing brands.
Brewing process is central to brand positioning
Heineken Silver is brewed using three natural ingredients, barley, hops and water, along with Heineken’s signature A-Yeast. The company also uses a distinctive horizontal brewing process, which it says contributes to the lager’s crisp, smooth and subtle taste.
The brand is positioned as a contemporary premium lager aimed at consumers looking for a refreshing drinking experience.
UBL targets wider premium beer market
United Breweries Chief Marketing Officer Vikram Bahl said the brand’s continued expansion reflected growing consumer interest in premium beer offerings.
“Assam is an important market, with consumers increasingly exploring premium beer choices,” Bahl said, adding that the launch would make Heineken Silver available to more consumers in the state.
UBL is relying on its manufacturing network across India, established brand portfolio and product innovation to support growth in the premium segment. The expansion of Heineken Silver will test the brand’s ability to build demand across markets with differing consumer preferences and price sensitivities.
With its Assam entry, the company is continuing to widen the beer’s distribution footprint as competition intensifies for consumers willing to pay more for premium and international beer brands.
